Most shotgun cartridges are built to be fired from the smoothbore barrel, as "shot" would be unfold much too large by rifling. A rifled barrel will boost the accuracy of sabot slugs, but makes it unsuitable for firing shot, because it imparts a spin for the shot cup, triggering the shot cluster to disperse. A rifled slug takes advantage of rifling
